MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

I fished out a rather strange old score the other day. I wasn't sure why I did that, as I haven't looked at it for years!! When I opened it...the Title ' Fukushima'  came out of the page!! I originally wrote it for four Trumpets, Female Chorus ,Organ and Percussion

Yesterday I started rewriting the entire work for two Trumpets, Wagner Tuba, Horn and Trombone, Female Chorus and Organ. I am using one word!!! ' Alleluia' . This word seems to 'fit' the extraordinary courage, selflessness and grace of the Japanese people in the face of unimaginable disaster.

I received a letter from someone living there at the time who described how everyone was sharing food and water and when it was announced that the shops were running short of food , people replaced what they had taken, back on the shelves!!! Can you imagine that happening in the western world???

The Music  reflects the awesome horror of the event to some extent but is dominated by a feeling of resolution and triumph!  I was personally (  like so many others ) deeply affected by this event.

While I was writing the work ,I felt we are all responsible! That our unadressed, repressed angers, emotional/mental conflicts and violence are manifesting as ' earth shaking' events!! in a literal sense...that we are the Planet and that the Planet is us...collective Humanity.
