MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

I reached out into the Creative Space and I thought there was nothing there! but actually, a few hours later, ideas began to introduce themselves!. I sketched the opening of the 2nd movt ( double concerto ) as a piano version. There wasn't much of it but at least it was a start!!

Normally ,I would sketch the whole work as a piano piece before orchestrating but this time for some reason it was different. I took the opening to the cafe and began to orchestrate the first few bars. This was somehow ' Magical' and all sorts of innovative shapes and forms came into ' view' as it were. This evening, there are 14 completed bars with dynamics and phrasing, tempi and dynamics all in place. The fact that I now feel at a ' full stop' is not important....it's a familiar feeling and will pass when it's ready.

In the meantime, I sent a copy of Te Deum (for editing ) to the Editor in London. After a few days, we arranged a discussion about it by telephone, actually we were on the phone for an hour and 20 minute session going through it with a fine tooth comb!. This was very enlightening and I really like my new Editor!! He's got a sense of humour which I greatly value. At one point, he said ' This is a bit like ' Mahler'......I wasn't sure how I felt about that, as Mahler ....although someone I enormously admire, is not a favourite of mine particularly.

One thing for certain, it was a great encouragement to work with Pete and I felt enormously motivated afterwards.

There are two works coming up behind...the scores of which he already has. 1) Le Chant de Venus ( Viola Concerto ) and ' In Honour of the Brave at Fukushima'. This is a smaller work for Female Choir. Brass Quintet and Pipe Organ, the Brass Quintet composed of Wagner Tuba, two Trumpets, Horn and Trombone...it's been fun to put together!!

There's something else birthing as well. It began with a question..'What is the real function of Music ( organised sound) in the world at this point in our history? Is there a deep purpose which I have missed? I'd like to bathe in this 'feeling' for longer and then maybe I can express something about it. Have a lovely evening all!! xx
