MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

Well , I had an interesting conversation with Monsieur Vallee who is responsible to the Mayor for setting up Concerts at Vence where I live. We were discussing a recent proposal I made to bring a German Orchestra to Vence to play ...possibly Premiere, ' Le Chant de Venus' which is a Concerto for Viola and Orchestra I wrote 3 years ago.

A connection has been made by Monsieur Vallee to the Musical Organiser of the Saarlander Rundfunk Radio Orchestra, (who have been playing  short excerpts from Requiem for some years ).

The Orchestra have said that they are willing to come but would want 3 Concerts on the Cote d'Azur!! and of course they need to be well compensated financially !!  The issue of Sponsorship raises it's usual questions.

They have a Violist who has read the score and would like to play it so no problem there. As usual the block is Money...it certainly does rule the world!!..

'Block' was a negative choice of word, I should have said '  Hesitation ' but I forgive myself for that owing to all the incredible difficulties Composers meet on what sometimes appears to be a ' thankless task '  BUT....only ' sometimes' Jil...remember that!!

Keep your fingers crossed but not if you are a String Player!!! I will keep you informed.

THankyou SO much those of you who clicked on the link to You TUbe and added to the views.....much appreciation. I have been trying for a long time to find a Publisher because there are more works to be out there.....setting of Te Deum ...for 4 soloist, large choir, Full Orchestra plus Wagner Tuba.

.A setting of Ave Maria for soloist, choir and small orchestra ( not yet edited ), 2 Concertos....Le Chant de Venus ..Viola Concerto currently with German Radio Orchestra awaiting a Premiere. ( one waits for ever! )

Still being edited ,Double Concerto...Venus Conjunct Mars ( Cello and Violin ) plus orchestra. I didn't start until I was 11 years old  :-) Ha ha ....but if you add 65, what do you get ? 6+5= 11  Voila. If you would like to give it more impetus ...here is the link again.

As most Musicians are aware, the instruments of the orchestra were fashioned from the subconcious mind. Look or imagine the shape of a Violin, Viola or Cello with it's 4 strings and one can understand how it symbolises the Heart area of the Body.

Since Strings can play chords , they can symbolize Harmony and as such can be understood as the Heart.

In my orchestra ( my body ) ,one Heart string has developed the habit over the last year of going on a sprint and ignoring the Conductor altogether .

Tomorrow, I go into the Tzanck Hospital and this errant string will meet it''s match!! I trust I shall emerge a coherent well tuned orchestra with a competent string section. :-))))

http://youtu.be/JXzASWtyDyc    Here is a link to a sample from a performance of Requiem in Monaco Cathedral, year 2000. The Choir is La Chorale Symphonie which was formed in ' 97 and with whom I regularly worked. The Orchestra.. Italian and two superb Soloists!! Myself conducting.
Please note the speed of the 2nd extract ' Sanctus' :-) well how could you fail to notice it!!!  It took alot of energy to win the Orchestra over....generally I find they are not entirely comfortable with female Conductors, so by the evening performance, I was in a rather excitable nervous state.....I forgave myself and all forces rose to the challenge brilliantly!!
Please note the Soprano ...Fabienne Chanoyan took the high C's  without a ' ladder!!!' Bravo Fabienne!!

The Concerto for Violin and Cello plus Orchestra has been lying on the piano since early 2013. I lost all hope I would find the necessary to pay my Editor, so that I could start promoting it.Two Soloists from Nice Philharmonic came up last year to play through the solo parts just to make sure I had not made some frightful errors since I don't play either instrument .. I always feel very nervous about that ! To my relief  all was well except just for a couple of double stops in which I had been ' over ambitious ' .

Then....wonderful news for me last week. A good friend and I were having coffee and she offered to pay for the editing.' You know Jil ' she said, 'one must also learn to receive' !!  That made me think, so I did and accepted.

Now as I download the score to scrutinise everything carefully before sending to Pete in London, I find I hardly remember how to operate Sibelius Software on my computer!!! it's been such a long rather depressing period. Well, get on with it Jil and I will this very day.

I shall write again about this Concerto as it's meaning is ...in my view....very significant in the modern world.
