MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

The Master Copy of Te Deum arrived this morning....very posh!!! Promotion?? This is something I'm just too tired to think about right now.

I'm already into the second movement of the Viola Concerto, scrutinising every note, every dynamic and marking before I submit to the Editor.

I was working on it over a rather tasteless lunch at a local Cafe, when suddenly some ' buskers' started up. It was amazing how my annoyance at this noisy disturbance actually spurred me on with the work!!! in consequence, I'm nearly at the end of the second movement and will be ready to start the third tomorrow. The third section is short and cheerful....also final.

My setting of the text Te Deum is finally edited!!

This is a Choral/Orchestral work of some magnitude. The forces required are 4 soloists, SATB Choir, Full Orchestra including Wagner Tuba....it has taken 10 years to complete. Mind you, I have not been working on it consistently during that period but the Piano Score was created in 1999.

I balked at the Orchestration for a long time as I had not previously orchestrated my own work, however after undertaking some studies with  a good Japanese Professor and then an Englishman, I began to work with it myself.

Very relieved to leave the Double Concerto alone for a while ....basically until I can arrange another rehearsal with both soloists. In the interim, I have sent Pete ( Editor in London ) ' Le chant de Venus' first movt.

This is a Concerto for Viola and orchestra. We've got enough money in the ' kitty' to edit the first movt...after that? Well, it's always in the ' lap of the Gods'.

It's amazing that he will take the score on a six weeks tour of America and with the Sibelius Software ( which really is stunning ), it'll pass to and fro between us in a few seconds with one click!!! of course we take it all for granted now...BUT should we??

This morning, I finished the last few bars of Venus Conjunct Mars ( Concerto for Solo Violin and Solo Cello plus Orchestra ). Finished in the sense of a first ' draft' and it may  stay like that! but it depends on several things ,like the solo parts when playing together ...(.only one rehearsal so far with just the Cellist. ) After that, there's the Editor to get passed! What would I do without him though?!!

This morning I took out a Viola Concerto which I began to prepare finally for editing....it's been ready a long time on a back shelf. There are three movts ,again on the theme of the two Archetypes represented by Venus and Mars. After that, it's time to think about a new work.

My dog and I left for Monaco at 5.30 yesterday afternoon and arrived after a deviation to avoid traffic around 7ish. We had a splendid evening with a good musical start .

I was amazed to discover that so far I had not writtten anything unplayable!! Even the double stops I was so dubious about worked!!! It was of course, a rather incomplete experience without the Violinist ( Venus ), nevertheless I was able to form a good idea of the complete work. Don't forget I haven't heard it ' in the flesh' so to speak.
