MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

I had such an amazing and unusual experience !

I sent a couple of scores and a disc to a well known publisher ... still looking for a ' yes ' . Not only did I receive all the materials back ( very unusual ) but enclosed was a letter from the Publishing Director.

At last it would seem that something ' gives' in an important situation....by important I mean the Premiere of ' Le Chant de Venus ' ( Viola concerto ) at Vence.

I must not give the wrong impression but I am heartened by the fact that after discussion with The Minister of Culture here , he agreed it for next year BUT on hearing the quote from the Delegate General of the Orchestra simply ruled it out as too expensive. At that point , I resolved to go to the Conseil Generale for assistance.

My good friend, Marco ( he is French ), is doing the negotiating  and we hope to meet Dr Frere ( Conseil Generale ) in September.....just the man I wanted to see because he once made a very complimentary comment about my Music.

One cannot assume success but I am a believer in ' positive expectation ' even if I am not very good at it at times!!!! :-) I will keep you informed, in the meantime you can hear an extract of the work as a piano and Viola version above played by the excellent violist Joel Soultanian ( Ensemble Orchestre de Paris ). Fingers crossed but not if you are a string player!!!

I have heard that the Orchestra of the Auvergne  has been in touch with our Minister of Culture re coming here to play the Viola  Concerto ' Le Chant de Venus.'  The orchestra are in Japan until mid may , so we will have to wait until further discussions/developments take place.

In the meantime, The programme for La Choral Symphonie has changed. I went to the Cathedral and had a good look and there's no way we could perform Poulenc's Stabat Mater in there ( which I would love to do ) owing to the size of the orchestra. If the venue was external that would be a different matter.

I will have to wait until Monsieur and I have discussed the orchestral event.

I have been reflecting on the proposed programme for La Chorale Symphonie.  In the meantime , a distraction has arisen....a pleasant one!!

I had contact with Orchestre D'Auvergne who would be interested to play the Viola Concerto ' Le Chant de Venus ' at Vence...!!

This afternoon I was with the man responsible for culture here  to discuss this proposed concert. ...Money as usual is the main question but the concerto does not require large forces , so I am hopeful of a performance here in 2016.

I spent last evening getting to grips with another computer and windows 7 in an attempt to settle the programme for the project next year.

Ha!!! I made a choice but as usual, my ideas are ' large' !! For example I looked up the instrumentation for Poulenc's Gloria

. Poulenc lived for a while in Tourrettes sur loup ....just 7 kilometres down the road, so it would seem vey appropriate to include him.

The village is small but his orchestral ideas are rich. We would need a large orchestra to put it simply......This would cost of course and then there's the venue but before I rule anything out, I am going to the Cathedral today to carefully examine space ,including that which is not normally used. in addition we would need a larger choir.

SO....the second half ,if possible would be Wagner's Pilgrims Chorus from Tannhauser, then the Poulenc...both of them stunning beautiful works.

It's no big deal if it doesn't prove practical,,,,there are always other possibilities but in my Heart , these works are right for this concert!!

Keep positive!!! xx
