MUSIC IS A MORAL LAW,
IT GIVES SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE
WINGS TO THE MIND.
FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION
A CHARM TO SADNESS
GAIETY AND LIFE TO EVERYTHING.
IT IS THE ESSENCE
OF ORDER AND LENDS TO ALL
THAT IS GOOD,JUST, AND BEAUTIFUL.

We have 3 guests online

I have heard that the Orchestra of the Auvergne  has been in touch with our Minister of Culture re coming here to play the Viola  Concerto ' Le Chant de Venus.'  The orchestra are in Japan until mid may , so we will have to wait until further discussions/developments take place.

In the meantime, The programme for La Choral Symphonie has changed. I went to the Cathedral and had a good look and there's no way we could perform Poulenc's Stabat Mater in there ( which I would love to do ) owing to the size of the orchestra. If the venue was external that would be a different matter.

I will have to wait until Monsieur and I have discussed the orchestral event.

I have been reflecting on the proposed programme for La Chorale Symphonie.  In the meantime , a distraction has arisen....a pleasant one!!

I had contact with Orchestre D'Auvergne who would be interested to play the Viola Concerto ' Le Chant de Venus ' at Vence...!!

This afternoon I was with the man responsible for culture here  to discuss this proposed concert. ...Money as usual is the main question but the concerto does not require large forces , so I am hopeful of a performance here in 2016.

I spent last evening getting to grips with another computer and windows 7 in an attempt to settle the programme for the project next year.

Ha!!! I made a choice but as usual, my ideas are ' large' !! For example I looked up the instrumentation for Poulenc's Gloria

. Poulenc lived for a while in Tourrettes sur loup ....just 7 kilometres down the road, so it would seem vey appropriate to include him.

The village is small but his orchestral ideas are rich. We would need a large orchestra to put it simply......This would cost of course and then there's the venue but before I rule anything out, I am going to the Cathedral today to carefully examine space ,including that which is not normally used. in addition we would need a larger choir.

SO....the second half ,if possible would be Wagner's Pilgrims Chorus from Tannhauser, then the Poulenc...both of them stunning beautiful works.

It's no big deal if it doesn't prove practical,,,,there are always other possibilities but in my Heart , these works are right for this concert!!

Keep positive!!! xx

I sent a programme as promised to Monsieur Vallee at the weekend, plus some idea of size of choir and orchestra. The programme is not complete but that hardly matters at this stage. It goes like this....

.MESSIAH.....Hallelujah Chorus.  Lux Aeterna ( Jil ), Requiem, ( Jil ). ( approx 42 mins ) INTERVAL...... Cantique de Jean Racine of FAURE, (after that not yet decided.....) finally ' Pilgrim's Chorus from Tannhauser of WAGNER .

CHOIR...approx 40 - 45, ORCHESTRA...medium size.  I also added approx estimated  costs.  I will need to have a complete programme within 10 days. Still waitiing for a Manager to turn up.

Sue is our UK contact ( Manager ), very helpful.....Thankyou Sue for all your enthusiasm and constructive help !! more news soon , so keep tuned!

Today, I met with Jacques Vallee who is now the Minister of Culture for Vence and responsible for Musical events at Vence with an office in the Mairie.

I have proposed a concert  to him by La Chorale Symphonie in 2016 and although the programme is not yet fully decided we spoke of my ideas.

At this time ....Hallelujah Chorus of Handel.... Requiem... interval. Then, after the interval... Ave Maria ( my own ) , a work for Soprano Soloist, SATB Choir and  String Orchestra....This has yet to be edited . Then ? , well yes I have ideas but it involves looking at the full score of works before a decision is made!
